Federated Meeting- 15 February 2010
Meeting was called to order at 7 PM.
A quorum was not met. There were representatives from 9 clubs.
ROLL CALL:
Present were the president, secretary, and representatives from RI Fish & Game Protective Assn; Wincheck Gun Club; RIHunts.com; RI Raccoon Hunters; Wallum Lake Rod & Gun;
Highland Rod & Gun; Cranston Fish & Game; Rumford Hunting & Fishing;
Smithfield Sportsman’s Club.
GUEST SPEAKER(S):
Guests present from D.E.M. were Larry Mouradjian, Director of Bureau of Natural Resources, and Cathy Sparks, Forest Environment/ Fish and Wildlife.
FISH & WILDLIFE REPORT:
Cathy Sparks spoke about a program using DNA testing at the URI lab to monitor local New England Cottontails. Also deer kill results will be looked at with the possibility of establishing zones that may have different harvest management strategies.
Dennis Etchells asked about required weapon use for hunting under agriculture damage permits. Larry Mouradjian and Cathy explain that any legal method may be used according to setbacks.
James Petrella asked about how upcoming deer hunting seasons may be affected. Cathy and Larry explained that this spring’s workshop will be the best time for hunter input.
We will keep you posted as to dates and location.
MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: There was no quorum, minutes could not be accepted.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
$400.00 from the raffle went to the PAC account. We are still looking for a treasurer.
COMMUNICATION AND BILLS:
Game dinner expenses were paid.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Game dinner was a success. Thanks to Ed Smith, chairman and Ralph from Kelly/ Gazerro.
115 tickets were sold, and there was a lot of interest for next year. Let’s try to double it!
Archer/ Shotgunner of the Year committee to meet 16 February at Highland.

Legislative:
There are two knife bills that I found; s.2142 (Feb 2010) and h.5857 (Feb 2009) that would limit the lengths of concealed knives to 3 inches. This includes any knife you may carry to gut a fish or deer.

Larry Mouradjian brought up the following, cut and pasted from the governor’s proposed 2011 budget:
Article 7 – Relating to Public Safety Communication Dispatch: The Article outlines the transfer of dispatch functions from the Division of Enforcement at the Department of Environmental Management to the Department of Public Safety beginning by January 1, 2011. The 5.0 FTE positions and associated funding, would be transferred in the FY2011 Supplemental Budget.
This may affect how road kill pick up calls are handled.

We are having issues with our non-profit status as it needs continuous attention which it has not received in the past. Dennis is working on this.
It is with sadness we report the passing of 3 year old Aurora Laorenza, the grand-daughter of Cranston’s Fish & Game’s Guido Laorenza. Ed Smith still has raffle tickets to help the family,
Tickets are $10, winner receives a game dinner for 10 people in your home, a value of $1300.00.
